It was with some trepidation that the PARK committee and volunteers
gathered at the playground on the morning of Sunday 2nd April
2006. The moment that all had been waiting for, after two years
of hard work and fund raising, the removal of the equipment
was about to begin
.
The team had 1 day to remove all the equipment form the play
area ready for the start of the ground works on Monday morning,
it was going to be a tough job but it had to be completed.

E.J.Taylor’s who were contracted
to do the works had donated the use of their digger for the
day, so after a Health and Safety brief, the team set to
work.
All items of equipment have to be removed with care as they
all had new homes to go to. The previous week the old metal
equipment have been advertised for sale on E-Bay, to our surprise
there had been a lot of interest and each piece had been sold
to people in Thetford and Putney, south west London!
First to go was the Springer, for such a small item it took
over 45 minutes to remove! The team were starting to worry
that there would not be enough time to complete the task.
All day the team were fed and watered by Christy, Pip, Jess
and Tracey, without their help the work would not have been
completed.
Things started to move forward, the slide was removed together
with the old climbing frame, things were looking much better.
The “newish” wooden frames
had to be removed with great care as they going to be included
into the new play area, these surprisingly were the easiest
pieces to be removed.

Things were going well with just the slide to go, we stopped
for lunch, with the thought of only one item to be removed
sprits were high.
These hopes were soon crushed when it
was found that a main water pipe was concreted into the footings
of the swings. Over an hour was spent carefully breaking
the concrete around the pipe, although it would look good,
we didn’t want a water
feature in the new playground!!
Once the slide was out we could all stand back and congratulate
each other on a job well done! Without the willing volunteers
as well as committee members, the job would have been so much
harder to finish.
Many thanks to all who ached the next day, we all did a great
job!
